Salt water and black sand confuse ordinary detectors. Multi-frequency machines with a beach mode handle wet sand well, and pulse induction (Impulse AQ, PulseDive, IQ Detect) ignores salt entirely. Check the waterproof depth on each model: most are rated to 10 to 16 ft, and dive detectors go to 200 ft or more.
